An impact on our water bodies that lasts forever
Nutrition enrichment promotes algal growth on the surface of waters, creating a thick layer of these plant species that force other organisms sharing that habitat to succumb to lack of oxygen.

Impact of Eutrophication
Due to higher nutritional content of water, a species of cyanobacteria, more commonly referred to as the "blue-green algae", uses this to promote rapid growth and form a layer on the surface of water. Blocking sunlight, it prevents other flora species, planted at depths to receive the sunlight and photosynthesise. This thus reduces the amount of Oxygen being dissolved in water due to photosynthetic routes and creating a "dead zone" where organisms such as other aquatic plants and fishes eventually die due to inadequate oxygen to support their bodily functions.
